Undated c1919 assumed 1st edition. Blue cloth with gilt lettering and decoration. Large format 11 x 8.5" with 200 pages. 16 tissue guarded colour plates by EFB (the author) as required. Contributions by Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare, Lord Byron, John Milton, Lord Tennyson, Alexander Pope, Thomas Delone, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Burns and many others. The 'famous women' include Helen, Cleopatra, Jephtha's daughter, Dalila, Queen Guinevere, Joan of Arc, Queen Katharine, Becky Sharp, Fanny, Perdita, and Titania. Board corners rubbed and slightly frayed, spine ends frayed, some cloth missing from spine ends. Previous owners book plate inside front board, a little browning to endpapers else very good, all plates in very good condition. 11052
