Hardcover. No dustjacket. A set of eight Caldecott picture books bound together. c1880-1910. These were originally published individually and the pages are numbered thus. Green boards with gilt title on spine, edges, spine tips and corners rubbed. Binding tight, fingering to most margins, margin tear to cover of Ride a-cock horse, large corner torn from cover of Hey diddle diddle, corner torn from back cover of the milkmaid, two pages from the fox jumps over the parson's gate have been repaired with new paper inset, couple of other edge tears or small nicks. Good picture paper boards (hard cover) 5.5 x 4.4" with 88 pages. Board's re-glued and original spine relayed. Front cover shows nursery rhyme characters and back cover a man holding two 'billboards'' proclaiming 'three other selections are issued uniform with this volume - entitled R. Caldecott's picture books No's 1, 3 & 4. Undated. Containing three stories - the house that Jack built, sing a song for sixpence and the Queen of hearts. Some cracking between pages, light fingering, trace of blue pen line on half title page else good. Engraved and printed by Edmund Evans Ltd, Rose Place, Globe Road, London, and E.1. Paper over front hinge torn, binding pulled, ffep, contents page and title page partly detached, foxing and browning to endpapers, finger marks to most margins. Fair only. Pictorial endpapers 6 tipped-in colour plates and numerous black and white illustrations.
