Browning to endpapers, long tear on rear endpaper repaired with clear tape. Story set mainly in the Berkshire countryside, at the farmhouse home of the children's grandmother, Mrs Hawthorne. The farm is called Smockfarthing, John and Mary's parents live in Rome. 11315

Very good book in good dust jacket. 247 pages with black and white illustrations by Mary Gardiner. Gift inscription on ffep, paper a little age darkened, the first three illustrations have been very neatly coloured, tiny tear to edge of one page and large crease on corner of another else very good. Unclipped dust jacket (6s net) has long repaired tear to front, two small repaired tears to base of spine, a little chipped around edges and age darkened. During the spring cleaning, when Smockfarthing is turned upside down John and Mary go to stay at the Lion in Riverton with their grandmother, their aunt and Miss Rose Brown. Among other exciting things they draw a lucky number at the Riverton Revels and discover hidden treasure! 8806
