Oblong format 7" x 5" (2/6) on corner of upper cover. Picture boards edge-worn and grubby. Child has drawn a picture in pencil and pen on back of first illustration. Possibly missing ffep. Lots of finger marks to margins, small piece (1"x 2") missing from corner of one illustration. Binding tight. 25 pages. Child's writing (in pencil) on back of last picture. 6 full page colour illustrations and many small black and white drawings. Few corner turns. Very scarce book in fair condition. Simon ran away to sea, he joined the "Susie" and earned 9d a week for doing the cooking. One day the Susie was overtaken by a pirate ship and all the sailors were thrown into the sea all that is except Simon. The pirate captain decided to keep him so that he could make Yorkshire pudding, pancakes and strawberry cream trifle ....
